New BMW sales fell 1.9 percent in March

The new BMW car sales fell 1.9 percent to 141,568 in March, German luxury carmaker said Tuesday.

In the first quarter, the Munich-based automaker said it delivered 333,276 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brand cars, up 0.1 percent on the same period a year earlier.

"We are expecting stronger growth" in the coming months, said BMW executive board member Michael Ganal. He expects growth to be driven by the introduction of new models.

The sale of BMW brand automobiles in the first quarter increased by 1 percent to 286,185 units from 283,323 last year. Sales of Rolls-Royce cars rose 5.6 percent to 113 vehicles in the same period.

BMW shares dipped 0.5 percent to EUR44.68 (US$59.72) in Frankfurt.
