Blair: Iranian video confessions are fooling no one

Iran is fooling no one by broadcasting confessions from captured British sailors, Prime Minister Tony Blair said Friday.

In a brief statement, Blair said Iran's videos were counterproductive, and that the British government should pressure the country by isolating it internationally.

"I don't know why the Iranian regime keeps doing this. All it does it heightens people's sense of disgust. Captured personnel being paraded and manipulated in this way, it doesn't fool anyone," he said. "And what the Iranians have to realize is that if they continue in this way they will face continued isolation."

He repeatedly said that his goal was the safe return of all of the sailors.

"There is only one possible solution to this, and that is that our personnel are returned safe and sound," Blair said. "We have to proceed as we are, which is to make sure that Iran is increasingly isolated."
