U.S. dollar down, gold up in European morning trading

The U.S. dollar was down against other major currencies in European trading Monday. Gold prices rose.

The euro traded at US$1.3172, up from US$1.3141 late Friday in New York.

_1.1704 Canadian dollars, down from 1.1724

The British pound traded at US$1.9421, up from US$1.9358.

Gold traded in London at US$653.20 per troy ounce, up from US$652.30 late Friday.

In Zurich, the bid price was US$649.55, up from US$649.50.

Gold closed down 30 U.S. cents in Hong Kong to close at US$653.10, reports AP.

Silver traded in London at US$12.98 per troy ounce, up from US$12.87.
