Edwin van der Sar pulls out of Netherlands' friendly against Russia

Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar pulled out of the Netherlands' squad for Wednesday's friendly against Russia after breaking his nose while playing for Manchester United.

Van der Sar was also concussed Sunday when he was hit in the head by Tottenham striker Robbie Keane's knee at White Hart Lane in Man United's 4-0 Premier League win.

The Dutch soccer federation announced Van der Sar's withdrawal Monday with Netherlands coach Marco van Basten naming Feyenoord's Henk Timmer as his replacement.

Van Basten hasn't named a replacement for defender Urby Emanuelson, who also pulled out Monday after injuring his knee in Ajax's 4-1 victory over Feyenoord in the Dutch league on Sunday, reports AP.

Former Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink will lead Russia in the friendly in Amsterdam.
