Gudjohnsen to play in Barcelona

Gudjohnsen is expected to sign a three-year contract in a transfer worth around Ђ 12 million (US$15.1 million), Spanish news reports said Tuesday.

The Icelandic forward's arrival would end Barcelona's search for a replacement for Swedish striker Henrik Larsson, who will play for his former club Helsingborg next season.

Barcelona's other targets were Thierry Henry and Diego Forlan, but the Frenchman chose to stay with Arsenal while Villarreal refused to allow the Uruguayan to leave, the AP reports.

Gudjohnsen would be Barcelona's first signing since the club completed one of its most successful seasons by winning the Champions League and Spanish league titles.

Gudjohnsen, who scored 54 goals in 184 league games, had his future thrown into doubt when Chelsea signed Andriy Shevchenko from AC Milan.
