Soon people will know all about the people and images of Broadway. Filmmaker Robert Liano decided to make documentary film about history of Broadway.

Some 400 filmmakers spread out simultaneously along the thoroughfare for one hour Tuesday to capture every block of Broadway, which runs almost the entire length of Manhattan and a section of the Bronx .

Liano circulated word of the project through a link on his company's Web site and e-mails to artists, among other means. He revealed little, except to say that he was offering an opportunity to participate in a "massive collaborative documentary film and photography project about New York City ."

Katherine Oliver, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's commissioner of film, theater and broadcasting, said Liano's request for a filming permit stood out.

"While other documentary filmmakers have filmed the city over time, this is the largest portion of the city that we have seen documented simultaneously," she said, reports the AP.
