A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 shook northern Greece on Wednesday but no injuries or damage were reported, officials said.

The University of Thessaloniki said the earthquake occurred at 10:01 a.m. (0701GMT), some 40 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of the port city.

Greece is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, reports the AP.
