Gas boiler explodes in Bangladesh: 6 people killed

A Gas boiler made by a local physics teacher exploded in northern Bangladesh, killing at least six villagers and injuring 29 others, an official said Wednesday.

The boiler exploded late Tuesday when the man conducted a test run at Govindaganj in Gaibandha district, 190 kilometers (120 miles) north of the capital, Dhaka, the local government chief Shah Alam told The Associated Press by phone.

The school teacher, Moinul Islam, had constructed the boiler as a way of producing electricity for use in irrigation, Alam said.

Islam was among the people injured in the explosion and had been hospitalized, Alam said, reports the AP.
