Five people including a young girl were killed and 12 people were injured in Suriname when the bus they were traveling in crashed into a ditch, police said.
Twelve other passengers were injured in the single-vehicle crash, including a second young girl who was listed in critical condition, police in the South American country said.
Police said survivors told them the driver lost control of the bus after one of its tires exploded on a road in a rural town about 200 miles (320 kilometers) west of the capital of Paramaribo.
Authorities could not immediately provide the identities of the five people killed, and said it took more than three hours to recover the bodies from the wreckage.
Police said the crash was the deadliest traffic accident so far this year in Suriname, reports the AP.
