Hamas delegation heading to Iran

Six legislators headed to Iran on Tuesday, and said they hoped to win financial support for Islamic and Arab countries.

The delegation left Gaza several days after the United States and Europe announced they were cutting aid to the Hamas government. The Islamic militant group has acknowledged it is broke and will have trouble paying the salaries of some 140,000 government employees. Arab countries have promised to help close the gap, but have so far not kept their pledges.

The Hamas legislators will attend a conference about Jerusalem in Iran, said Mushir al-Masri, the head of the Hamas faction in parliament. "In addition, we will try to open the gates to the other Arab countries that we hope will stand by us in a serious and responsible fashion against the international boycott," he said, reports the AP.
