Three militants wounded while trying to fire rockets at Israel

Three Palestinian militants were wounded Wednesday as they tried to fire homemade rockets toward Israel, Palestinian security officials said.

The rockets prematurely exploded before they were launched, the officials said. The militants were identified as members of the Popular Resistance Committees, a small group that has carried out numerous rocket attacks in the past. There were no details on the extent of their injuries.

The Israeli army said it was not involved in the incident. But earlier, it fired artillery shells toward suspected rocket-launching areas in northern Gaza in response to rocket fire.

The army said militants fired five rockets early Wednesday, including one that landed in Israel. There were no reports of damage or injuries, it said, reports the AP.
