The leader of the breakaway Turkish Cypriot republic in northern Cyprus underwent heart bypass surgery Monday in Istanbul , his private secretary said.
President Mehmet Ali Talat, 54, was being operated on at Istanbul 's Florence Nightingale hospital after an angioplasty on Sunday revealed a blockage in one of his main arteries, his private secretary, Asim Akansoy, told reporters.
Akansoy said Talat is expected to return to Cyprus within 10 days, reports the AP.
