Police bar Turkish demonstrators from reaching Danish Embassy

Police used armored vehicles on Wednesday to block about 500 ultranationalist Turks from reaching the Danish Embassy, and the demonstration against European newspapers' publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad dispersed peacefully.

Police stopped the protesters at a roadblock reinforced with two armored personnel carriers some 50 meters (yards) from the Danish Embassy, which has been the scene of frequent protests since the caricatures of Prophet Muhammad were published in a Danish newspaper.

Riot police stood by and watched the crowd, which chanted: "Hands that reach the Prophet must be broken," and "God is great!"

"Jesus will not forgive you," read a banner carried by the crowd, which also shouted: "Europe, don't test our patience."

The crowd later dispersed peacefully after a small group laid a black wreath at the gates of the embassy, reports the AP.
