Prosecutors accuse man of helping militias

German prosecutors said Tuesday they have charged an Iraqi man with membership of a terrorist organization for allegedly raising and sending funds to Islamic militants in Iraq.

Federal prosecutors said they charged the man, identified as Ferhad Kanabi A., alias Kawa H, on Jan. 23 with being a member of Ansar al-Islam, a radical Islamic group whose members are fighting U.S. and allied forces in Iraq.

The 34-year-old Munich resident is suspected of collecting and transferring money for Ansar al-Islam in seven cases since 2004.

The charges were filed with the same state court in Munich that last month convicted an Iraqi Kurd of being a member of Ansar al-Islam and sentenced him to seven years in jail.

It was not immediately clear when Ferhad Kanabi A. would go on trial, reports the AP.
