Liverpool to meet Manchester United in fifth round of FA Cup

Liverpool will play 11-time champion Manchester United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Liverpool, a six-time FA Cup winner, beat Portsmouth 2-1 on Sunday to advance. United defeated Wolves 3-0.

Manchester United beat Liverpool 1-0 in a Premier League game on Jan. 22. United captain Gary Neville was charged with misconduct for celebrating the winning goal in front of Liverpool fans.

Monday's Cup draw also pitted Colchester, which plays in the third-tier of English soccer, against either Chelsea or Everton. The Premier League sides drew 1-1 Saturday and will meet in a replay on Feb. 8.

Colchester is expected to make about 1 million pounds (US$1.77 million; 1.46 million euros) from the fifth-round match, a welcome boost for a team fighting for promotion to the League Championship. Bolton, which knocked out last year's champion Arsenal 1-0 on Saturday, will play West Ham. Aston Villa will host Manchester City in another all Premier League match. Newcastle will be at home against relegated Southampton.

Other pairings: Charlton vs. Brentford; Stoke City vs. Reading or Birmingham City; and Preston North End or Crystal Palace vs. Coventry City or Middlesbrough.

Chelsea is the favorite to win its fourth FA Cup. Bookmaker William Hill is offering 13-8 odds on the league leaders. Liverpool is next at 5-1, followed by Man United at 11-2. Colchester is the longest shot at 1,000-1, reports the AP.
