United States prisoner executed for murder of resigned minister

Perrie Dyon Simpson was executed early Friday morning for the 1984 murder of a retired minister, the North Carolina Department of Correction said.

Simpson, 43, was pronounced dead early in the morning, said spokesman Keith Acree. The execution came after Governor Mike Easley rejected Simpson's clemency request Thursday evening and after the United States Supreme Court rejected his appeal, reports the AP.
