Spanish civil war archives taken from the Catalonia region by dictator &to=http://english.pravda.ru/society/2001/10/23/18831.html' target=_blank>Francisco Franco in 1940 are to be returned there starting Thursday, despite the objections of the city where they have been stored ever since, the government said.

Parliament authorized the restoration last year, and a Culture Ministry spokeswoman said Wednesday that the archives would be moved "because that was the decision the Spanish parliament took last April. The ministry is working to ensure that the archives are moved as planned."

Authorities in the northwestern city of Salamanca, where the 300,000 files and 1,000 photographs were taken the year after Gen. Franco's Nationalist forces won the 1936-39 war, have denied parking and loading access requested by the Culture Ministry.
