Vehicle with relief goods for Pakistani survivors falls into ravine

A vehicle with relief goods for survivors of the Oct. 8 quake lost control and plunged into a deep ravine in a remote mountainous village of northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, killing six people and injuring two others, a police official said. Rustam Khan said the accident happened at Thandiani, a village about 250 kilometers (150 miles) northeast of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province, where the quake killed about 87,000 and left 3.5 million homeless.

Since then, many aid agencies and individuals have been dispatching aid to northwestern Pakistan and the country's part of Kashmir, where millions of people have been living in tents and facing a harsh winter.

Khan said rescue teams had transported the bodies and the injured to a hospital. He gave no other details. Fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan, and many are blamed on drivers' widespread disregard for traffic rules.

On Tuesday, at least 22 people were killed and 24 others injured when their bus fell into a river in Pakistan-administered part of Kashmir, reports the AP. I.L.
