Kennedy auction offers a glimpse into everyday life of former presiden

John F. Kennedy's 1951 passport sold for $54,000 (Ђ45,000) and Jacqueline Kennedy's 1953 passport for $56,500 (Ђ47,100) on Thursday, the opening day of an auction of Kennedy memorabilia that offers a glimpse into their daily lives.

The sale of 1,500 lots by Guernsey's auction house also included the Omega watch the former president wore at his inauguration, a sailboat and rocking chairs. The sale prices included a 20 percent commission.

"I'm just fascinated by the Kennedys. And these prices are reasonable," said Antonio Lopez, a hospital ward clerk from Brooklyn who paid $780 (Ђ650) for a framed photograph of the former president speaking on the telephone, wearing glasses.

Some of the items in the auction, held at the Park Avenue Armory, belonged to the late Robert White, a &to=http://english.pravda.ru/world/2002/10/23/38571.html' target=_blank>Kennedy admirer who became fascinated as a teenager with the then-senator. White, a cleaning-supplies salesman, began a correspondence with Evelyn Lincoln, Kennedy's secretary, and they became friends after the president's 1963 assassination.
