New York Republicans tell Clinton challenger to drop U.S. Senate bid

New York's Republican Party leaders recommended Monday that Jeanine Pirro abandon her struggling campaign to challenge Sen. &to=http://english.pravda.ru/main/2000/10/06/123.html' target=_blank>Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Senate and instead run for state attorney general.

State Republican Chairman Stephen Minarik said no vote was taken but that was the consensus of the county leaders. Rockland County Chairman Vincent Reda said the support for a Pirro switch was "overwhelming."

Pirro issued a terse response.
