French IOC member suspended after corruption conviction

Guy Drut was suspended Friday as a member of the International Olympic Committee pending the outcome of his corruption case in France.

The IOC accepted its ethics commission's recommendation to "provisionally suspend, for the duration of the inquiry, all the rights, prerogatives and functions deriving from Mr. Guy Drut's membership of the IOC."

The &to=' target=_blank>IOC ethics commission will resume its inquiry no later than May 31, 2006, pending Drut's "request for amnesty" in the French courts.

In October, Drut was given a 15-month suspended sentence and fined US$60,000 (Ђ50,000) in a corruption and party-financing trial.
