Man executed for 1991 Baltimore County murder

A convicted murder sentenced to die for the 1991 killing of a woman in Maryland was executed late Monday, just hours after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected three appeals by the man and Maryland's governor said he would not intervene.

Wesley Eugene Baker was executed Monday for the 1991 murder of a woman at a Baltimore County shopping center during a robbery, a crime witnessed by the woman's two young grandchildren.

Baker, 47, died from a lethal injection delivered at the Metropolitan Transition Center in Baltimore. He was pronounced dead at 9:18 p.m. (0218 GMT Tuesday), according to a statement released by prison officials, AP reports.
