Justice Minister will approve extradition of suspected drug smuggler to United States

Israeli Justice Minister Tzipi Livni has decided to approve the extradition of a leading Israeli criminal and suspected drug smuggler to the United States, a spokesman said Sunday.

According to the U.S. extradition request, Zeev Rosenstein is suspected of involvement in the distribution of more than 1 million Ecstasy pills in the United States, most in New York and Miami. U.S. prosecutors have called him one of the most wanted drug smugglers in the world.

Livni has decided to approve the extradition but will give the defense team one more week to present her with what they have described as "new evidence," her spokesman Shai Ben-Mor said Sunday.

But he said the new findings will have to be "tremendous" for Livni not to approve the extradition, which is the last step needed for him to be sent to trial in the United States.

"It's 99 percent sure that Rosenstein will get on the airplane," Ben-Mor said, AP reported. V.A.
