Milosevic couldn't appear in court

The trial of Slobodan Milosevic was once again postponed due to the former Yugoslav president’s ongoing health problems.

The Hague Tribunal’s court council will make a decision on the continuation of the process later today. Judge Patrick Robinson announced this morning that Milosevic is ill and will not be making an appearance in court today.

The Tribunal’s head physician submitted a report to the court today advising that the defendant should not continue the trial today, and a more detailed report on Milosevic’s health status is expected to be given today by Milosevic’s personal team of cardiologists, who have already recommended that the trial should be postponed for a period of six weeks.

The court council rejected the Tribunal’s recommendation to allow Milosevic’s court-appointed defence attorney Steven Kay to lead the proceedings in Milosevic’s absence.

“The council does not believe that it would be suitable to force Kay to try and come in contact with the defence’s witnesses.” Robinson said, adding that the situation will be a lot clearer after the medical report has been fully analyzed.

“Maybe Milosevic will appear in court tomorrow,” Robinson said.

This is the fourth time defence proceedings in the trial have been put on hold because of the Milosevic’s health, B92 reports.
