Berlin: German leaders condemn Indian bombings, urge common anti-terror fight

German leaders on Sunday condemned as "barbaric" the explosions which killed at least 61 people in the Indian capital and urged nations to cooperate closely to defeat terrorism.

"These barbaric acts, a few days before the religious holidays, shows unrivaled contempt for human life," Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said in a statement, offering his condolences to the wounded and the relatives of the dead.

"They are a warning that we mustn't relent in the fight against terrorism, whatever its source, and that we must strengthen our efforts to solve conflicts peacefully around the world," Schroeder said. Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer called for those responsible to be tracked down and brought to justice, AP reports.

"The terrorists' attempt to replace peaceful coexistence and humanity with fear and shock will not succeed," Fischer said.
