Salvadoran police arrest three U.S. bail bondsmen at airport

Salvadoran police have arrested three U.S. bail bondsmen at the airport in San Salvador, alleging that the Americans posed as FBI agents in an attempted to abduct a Salvadoran citizen, Salvadoran authorities confirmed Sunday.

The three men were arrested on Saturday as they attempted leave the country with Salvadoran Julio Cesar Nerio and turn him over to authorities in Nevada, according to a news release from Salvadoran federal police.

The U.S. Embassy in San Salvador confirmed the arrests and said the Americans were not employed by the FBI or any other U.S. government agency. An embassy official refused to provide more information about the detainees.

Police said Nerio was taken from his house, held in a hotel overnight before being driven to the airport _ in handcuffs all the while. Airport officials stopped the group after finding they did not carry the appropriate paperwork, AP reported. V.A.
