Over 1,300 Pakistanis deported by Oman for illegal entry

Two cargo ships arrived in Pakistan on Thursday carrying 1,334 Pakistanis deported by Oman for illegal entry, an official said. The Pakistanis arrived in the southern port city of Karachi aboard the ships from Muscat in Oman, said Mohammed Anwar, an official with the Federal Investigation Agency, which handles immigration issues in Pakistan.

He said the men had been jailed in Oman for the past three months. "They will be allowed to go home after being questioned," he said, without giving further details.

Thousands of Pakistanis travel to oil-rich Middle Eastern countries to find work. Some pay human traffickers to smuggle them in but many are caught by authorities there and then deported, reports the AP. I.L.
