President Ivan Gasparovic appointed Jirko Malcharek as economics minister on Tuesday.
Lawmaker Malcharek replaces Pavol Rusko, who was forced to resign in August amid accusations of shady financial dealings, the AP reports.
Malcharek assured Gasparovic and other officials present at the brief ceremony that he will continue policies that encourage foreign investment in the poorest regions in the country, which joined the European Union last year. AM
