Presidential race in Poland: conservative Warsaw mayor is catching up

A poll released Tuesday showed Warsaw's conservative mayor narrowing the gap on his main rival in the race for this weekend's Polish presidential election. The survey by the PBS polling center put support for the front-runner in Sunday's election, Donald Tusk of the business-friendly Civic Platform, at 37 percent.

It gave Warsaw Mayor Lech Kaczynski, the candidate of the socially conservative Law and Justice party, 33 percent.

Tusk's support was down three points from a week earlier, while backing for Kaczynksi was one point higher. PBS, which questioned 924 people between Friday and Sunday, gave a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

Other polls also have found support for Kaczynski, whose identical twin brother Jaroslaw leads Law and Justice, rising over recent days, reports the AP. I.L.
