Kosovo Albanians may be granted conditional independence

Over 60% citizens in Pristina, where Albanians constitute the overwhelming majority as well as throughout Kosovo, interviewed by KosovaLive believe that the talks over Kosovo’s final status will bring conditional independence.

26% of citizens consider that Kosovo will get full independence after the possible talks, 9% believe that the talks will bring conditional independence with a special autonomy for local Serbs.

The survey was conducted in declarative form with 100 representatives of various age and professions from September 25-27.

As for Kai Eide’s report, 37% believe that it will be positive, 4% believe that it will be negative, KosovaLive reports.

Whereas 13% consider that the 1999 conflict will be reactivated if Eide’s report would be negative taking into account the resolution of Kosovo Albanians to get long strived independence by all means.

On the other hand 35% believe that the continuance of status quo will be coupled with worsening of economic situation. While 24% think that even in case the report will be negative, there will be nothing bad.

In the meanwhile police and NATO-led peacekeepers found and removed an explosive device from the capital of Kosovo.

The device was found last Friday under a United Nations vehicle, which was parked inside the compound of the province's Ministry of Culture in central Pristina.

Police said the device contained 2 kilograms (4.41 pounds) of TNT explosive, Serbianna reports.

Kosovo has been administered by the United Nations and patrolled by NATO-led peacekeepers since 1999 after the alliance pushed Serb forces out of the province. The situation remains tense in the region so far, reminding of the disastrous March 2004 riots.
