A bomb planted in a trash can went off in southeastern Turkey, injuring four police officers who went to the area to inspect an earlier explosion, the Anatolia news agency reported Monday. A bomb, believed to have been planted by autonomy-seeking Kurdish rebels, exploded around 10:15 p.m. (1915GMT) Sunday in the town of Yuksekova, Hakkari province, where the borders of Turkey, Iran and Iraq meet. A second bomb exploded soon after, as police called to the scene began their inspections, Anatolia said. Meanwhile, a Kurdish man was killed Sunday during clashes between Kurdish demonstrators and police in an Istanbul neighborhood, police said Monday.
Demanding freedom for imprisoned Kurdish rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan, the demonstrators hurled fire bombs at police, an officer said speaking on condition of anonymity, as civil servants are rarely allowed to speak on the record, reports the AP. I.L.
