Indonesia tightens rules on air carrier

The Indonesian government will not allow carrier plane that was more than 35 years old or 70,000 times flight to operate in the country, in an effort to provide security and safety of flight, Transportation Minister Hatta Rajasa said.

The policy would take effect in December, the Kompas daily quoted the minister as saying on Monday.

The rule was imposed on flight carrier that has jet engine, that is operated in Indonesia's territory, he said.

The minister said that the government will not tolerate any plane which is not in the criteria, although it still could fly properly.

Early September, a commercial plane of Indonesia's Mandala air carrier crashed into a populated area after failure take off in the capital of North Sumatra province of Medan, killing over 140 people, Xinhua reports.
