Police arrested 87 journalists in the Nepalese capital on Friday who were planning a protest rally to demand the lifting of restrictions on the press, a local media rights group said.
The Federation of Nepalese Journalists said 87 journalists were being held at a detention center in Katmandu.
The journalists were arrested while gathering for their planned rally in central Katmandu to protest restrictions imposed by the royal government on the press since King Gyanendra took over absolute power earlier this year.
