Mubarak's rival to seek rerun of Egyptian election

One of the Egyptian President rivals on elections declared he would call for fresh presidential elections after reports of numerous frauds.

A decision would have to come from the Presidential Election Commission, which is immune from judicial review and which has ignored many opposition complaints about the poll.

Mubarak's campaign spokesman, Mohamed Kamal, said Nour was attacking the process because he was going to lose.

The elections were Egypt's first with more than one candidate and have enlivened political debate. Some observers said they were an improvement on Egyptian parliamentary elections, others that many of the same abuses recurred.

According to Reuters monitoring groups reported irregularities including ballot stuffing, vote buying, intimidation, abuse of government vehicles and discrimination in favor of Mubarak.
