Macedonian reservists should share US$373,500 in compensation for rebel attack in 2001

Scores of Macedonian reservists will be compensated for "sustained psychological pain" suffered when ethnic Albanian rebels ambushed their convoy with rocket-propelled grenades in 2001. The Macedonian Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that 86 army reservists should share Ђ300,000 (US$373,500) in compensation. Each will receive around Ђ3,500 (US$4,300). The August 2001 attack, which killed 10 reservists, took place in the northern Tetovo region during an uprising by ethnic Albanian rebels seeking more minority rights. Ethnic Albanians make up about a quarter of the country's population.

In their lawsuit, the reservists said the army had failed to provide a proper escort for them, reported AP.
