At least 143 people died and 13 passengers survived in the crash of an Indonesian passenger jet today in a residential area in the city of Medan, acting North Sumatra governor Rudolf Pardede said.
”The dead victims total 143, composed of 104 passengers and crew, and 39 residents,” Pardede was quoted as saying by Forbes.
"The surviving passengers currently under treatment number 13," he said, adding that only four residents injured on the ground were still hospitalized.
He did not name the survivors.
An official at the Mandala Airlines crisis center in Jakarta said 15 people were registered as survivors.
As Pravda.ru reported earlier, the Boeing 737 of the Mandala Airlines crashed into a residential neighbourhood shortly after take-off from Medan's Polonia airport. It had 117 people on board, five of them crew.
