Two bomb explosions in Baghdad

Two large detonations were heard in central Baghdad early Friday. There were no reports of casualties.

Initial reports said a car bomb blew up on a street near the Al-Sader Hotel in the center of the capital, from where a plume of smoke could be seen rising. Two Apache attack helicopters could be seen circling the areaб the AP reports.

Another bomb was reported to have targeted a U.S. military convoy, witnesses said.

Despite initial reports that a blast occurred near the Green Zone that houses Iraqi government offices, and the U.S. and other embassies, a military spokesman said there were no reports of attacks there.

Security in the zone was boosted Thursday after reports that several suicide bombers were trying to penetrate the area, which is a frequent target for insurgent attacks.
