Indonesia President warns of terrorist attacks

Indonesia's president warned on Monday of possible terrorist attacks in the coming two months, and said he would also take steps to show the country was still a tolerant Muslim nation.

Speaking at a seminar in Jakarta, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said bombmakers from the militant network Jemaah Islamiah posed a threat to the world's most populous Muslim nation.

"Terrorist cells are still active. They are still hiding, recruiting, networking, trying to find new funding sources, and even planning," Yudhoyono said, reportsReuters.

According to Forbes, he said the possibility of more terrorist attacks remains real since two of the key bombers accused of being behind the Bali and embassy attacks remain on the loose.

Malaysian bomb experts Azahari Husin and Noordin Mohammad Top are Indonesia's most wanted people.

The attacks in which the two are believed to have been involved, including the Bali blast and the embassy attacks, are blamed on the Jemaah Islamiyah regional extremist network, which is allegedly linked to Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda.

The Australian embassy was attacked here in September last year, with 12 people killed including the suicide bomber, while the resort island of Bali was targeted by bombings in Oct 2002 in which 202 people were killed.
