Gunmen attacked Iraqi President Motorcade

Gunmen attacked cars owned by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Thursday, wounding four of his bodyguards, police said. The president was not in any of the cars when the attack occurred.

The convoy was subjected to fire by insurgents south of Tuz Khormato, 55 miles (88 Kilometers) south of this northern city, said Police Capt. Farhard Talabani. He added that four of Talabani's bodyguards were wounded and were being treated in a Kirkuk hospital.

The police officer said the cars were returning from Kurdistan to Baghdad when the attack happened.

The attack comes three days after Environment Minister Narmin Othman escaped an assassination attempt when gunmen attacked her convoy north of Baghdad wounding three bodyguards, the AP.
