Ukraine orders inspections on Boeing 737 airliners after Greece air crash

Ukrainian transport authorities have ordered the state-run Aviation Service Agency to inspect immediately the pressurization systems on all Ukrainian-registered Boeing 737 airliners.

The move was prompted by Sunday's air crash in Greece when a Cypriot Boeing 737-300, with 121 people aboard, crashed into a mountain following an apparent high-altitude loss of cabin pressure, said Tetyana Markina, a spokeswoman for the Transport and Communication Ministry.

The Boeing 737s will not be grounded and "checks will be performed between the flights," she said. Ukrainian companies operate about two dozen Boeing 737 airliners.

Earlier this month, a Boeing-737 of major Ukrainian carrier Aero Svit en route from Kiev to Cairo had to return to the airport for an emergency landing due to a sudden loss of cabin pressure, Markina was quoted by the AP.
