Graves of World War II anti-Hitler soldiers vandalised badly in Latvia

The Russian Embassy in Latvia expressed outrage over the vandalism of tombstones in a cemetery in the east of the country. The embassy statement says that vandals had disrespected soldiers killed in World War II.

"It is nothing but vandalism and an insult to those who gave their lives to free Latvia from fascism, and there cannot be any other response but regret," the embassy said in a statement.

The embassy said it hoped the Latvian government would restore the damaged tombstones and would take steps to ensure similar acts didn't happen in the future, the AP reports.
