Austrian customs authorities seized about 24,000 contraband cigarettes hidden in a car that was inspected at a border crossing with Slovakia.
The cigarettes were stashed in the vehicle's trunk and engine compartment, officials said in a statement. The car was entering Austria from Slovakia when it was stopped.
The driver, identified only as a 52-year-old Hungarian national, was not arrested at the scene but likely would face smuggling charges, authorities said.
