Georgia accuses Russian serviceman of attempt on Bush's life

Georgian authorities announced the results of investigation into the alleged attempt on G.W. Bush's life during his visit to Georgia the last month. Georgia's president Saakashvili said that due to "the titanic work the principal circumstances of the case were determined".

There are two versions of the case, reports Rosbalt citing a Georgian TV channel. According to one version the nationality of the assaulter is not determined, but the police has his photo and he is currently being retrieved

According to the second version the grenade was thrown by a Russian serviceman, who allegedly tried to leave the country, but fell into “the hands of Americans”. The spokesman for the Russian military in Georgia denied this allegation calling it a provocation. He said that no Russian serviceman had ever been detained on the charge.

The live grenade, thrown in Tbilisi on May 10, fell 30 meters away from Mrs. Saakashvili and Bush. It was first considered to be bogus, but the investigators recognized that RGD-5 could explode. The case is investigated by the Georgian and U.S. special services.
