North Korean leader Kim Jong-il held a rare meeting with a senior South Korean official on Friday, a pool report from &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/main/2002/10/21/38433.html ' target=_blank>Pyongyang said.
Kim held talks with Unification Minister Chung Dong-young and his two successors in a hastily notified meeting and followed up with a luncheon, the pool report said.
"I want to see past acquaintances," Kim was quoted as saying, the pool report said. No other details were available.
The meeting with the famously reclusive Kim comes amid growing regional concern about whether Pyongyang intends to return to talks on its &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/world/20/91/368/15001_nuclear.html ' target=_blank>nuclear weapons programs, tells Reuters.
