The U.S. dollar fell against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday. Gold prices rose.
The euro was quoted at US$1.2889, up from US$1.2840 Tuesday.

-1.2178 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2198
The British pound was quoted at US$1.8816, up from US$1.8774.
Gold traded in London at US$426.60 bid per troy ounce, up from US$424.50 on Tuesday.
In Zurich the bid price was US$425.30, up from US$424.20.
Gold closed at US$426.25 an ounce in Hong Kong, up 50 U.S. cents an ounce from Monday's close of US$425.75. Hong Kong's financial markets were closed Tuesday for a public holiday.
Silver traded in London at US$7.04 bid per troy ounce, down from US$7.05.
