Ousted Kyrgyz President will resign on Tuesday

The official ceremony of Akayev's resignation will be held tomorrow in the Kyrgyz Parliament. Earlier today Mr. Akayev signed an application for his resignation in the Kyrgyz Embassy in Moscow in the presence of 8 delegated deputies of Kyrgyzstan's parliament and a notary. Before signing he read out the text of his address to the Kyrgyz people before a national television camera. Tomorrow this recording will be shown during the special session of the Kyrgyz parliament after which Mr. Akayev will be declared resigned.

On Sunday, after the Moscow talks with the parliament's delegation, Akayev said that a four-point document had been approved, reports RIA Novosti. "One of them says that Kyrgyzstan's president states his resignation from the post of president ahead of time in accordance with his own application," Akayev said at a press conference. "Second, parliament adopts a resolution on unconditional fulfillment of the provisions of the country's constitution and of the law on guarantees of the president's activity. Third, parliament accepts the resignation, and sets the date for early elections of the president of Kyrgyzstan." According to the fourth item, the sides state their unconditional "respect for the international guarantees" of the adopted protocol.

Mr. Akayev was first elected as a President of Kyrgyzstan on October 29, 1990. Then he was reelected by direct universal vote in 1991, 1995 and 2000. He has already expressed his wish to stay in Russia and to lead "a research work in physics".
