Former opposition leader Kulov resigns as coordinator of law enforcement agencies

Former opposition leader Felix Kulov resigned Wednesday from his newly appointed position as coordinator of law enforcement agencies, saying order had been restored to Kyrgyz streets.

Kulov was named to the post last week by interim leader Kurmanbek Bakiyev and charged with tackling the looting and mass disorder that broke out in the Kyrgyz capital after Thursday's ouster of longtime President Askar Akayev.

"The situation has stabilized," Kulov told lawmakers, according to the parliamentary press service.
