The sentence on Friday for Sergeant Javal Davis was in accordance with a deal he struck with prosecutors in which he had agreed to plead guilty to dereliction of duty, making a false official statement and battery, the Killeen (Texas) Daily Herald reported.

It came after six hours of deliberation by a military jury, reports Al-Jazeera News.

Sgt Davis was a military policeman who worked as a guard at Abu Ghraib prison for three months in late 2003. He is among seven soldiers facing charges in the &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/mailbox/22/101/397/13888_Iraqi.html' target=_blank>abuse scandal at Abu Ghraib.

Several haunting pictures of the abuse showed naked and injured &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/accidents/21/93/375/12666_UStroops.html' target=_blank>Iraqi prisoners alongside smiling American soldiers. The photos sparked international outrage.
