Greeks force European champions out

France joined other 4 football superpowers, namely England, Germany, Italy and Spain in going back home disgraced. Although, the quarterfinal matchup was clearly unbalanced on paper, the Greeks came out to struggle and took advantage of a few lucky breaks sending the French home.

The Greeks put a lot of pressure on the French through the first half, leaving the teams with 0-0 score at halftime.

And then, on the 65 minute, almost halfway through the second half, the unthinkable happened. Theodoros Zagorakis broke clear down the right flank and crossed to Angelos Haristeas, who headed the ball past helpless French 'keeper Fabien Barthez.

The 65th minute goal left the many superstars on the French team playing catch up, but they never made it.
