Bernadette Chirac on development of Russian-French space cooperation

Russia and France should develop cooperation in space sphere, French first lady Bernadette Chirac said in Moscow on Thursday following the visit to the Lavochkin scientific production association.

According to Mme Chirac, Russia and France have big possibilities to develop space cooperation, especially, in Kourou projects.

"I am very much impressed by my visit to the Lavochkin center and we shall be happy to continue our interaction," she stressed.

She pointed out Russian efforts on space exploration and great successes in this sphere.

Bernadette Chirac attended workshops and the museum of the Lavochkin center.

In particular, she saw the Fregat acceleration unit, astrophysical laboratories Spektr and Astron, and the individual rescue system Spasatel based on the soft landing system of spacecraft.

General designer of the Lavochkin center, Konstantin Pichkhadze presented Mme Chirac with a capsule with some milligrams of lunar soil, which was delivered to the Earth by the Luna-16 interplanetary station in 1970.

"This is a remarkable present and I am really touched," said Bernadette Chirac.
